It's all set; we have a plan set for the next year. I will start with the first service-learning meeting - we introduced ourselves and named our reasons why we are in this Darfur group. I said I joined in the group because I am concerned with many things going on in Darfur, with all the killings and lousy education. I think it's really important that we look into the issues more even if we have issues here, in America. These Darfur has nothing compared to us & we are going to make sure these people in Darfur gets what they need and want.
We then named our ideas and what we could do to help Darfur. Some of the ideas are food drives, donations, student exchange and many more. We knew we couldn't help Darfur with many things but we narrowed to one subject; Stop the killings in Darfur. I wanted to go with Education, but since people get killed, how can they get educated? I think that should be our first step to help Darfur.
In the second meeting, we talked about more issues in Darfur - like, if people come out of these camps in Darfur, and they are women - they get raped. If the people are men, they get killed. That's an issue we need to try and solve with. The government in Darfur is controlling and slowly killing/taking over the Darfur people.
In closing, I can say we got a lot of things figured out but we need a little more guidance in the group & we need to know what we can do and what we can't. Overall, I think these meetings are worth it & I'm glad I joined the group because we are really doing something here instead of just sitting around and doing nothing.
